2006 - 2007 Season

"The Classics Redux"

Beginning in the fall of 2006, Desert Rose Theatre will present a series of plays designed to revisit the classics with a fresh and unique point of view.  We remain committed to producing works of great artistic quality in an accessible and affordable way.

She Stoops to Conquer

by Oliver Goldsmith  (1728-1774)

October  5 - 21, 2006

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM

This rollicking comedy tells the story of a young man tongue-tied by highly born ladies, but fiercely flirtatious with serving girls.  His chances of finding a wife of his own station appear hopeless, until an enterprising young lady with a maid's costume enters the picture.  What ensues are romps about the drawing room, stolen kisses and the idea that Love conquers all, even if you have to nudge it along.  Suitable for ages eight and older.

Christmas 1943

by the DRT Company

December 7 -  23, 2006

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM

It's December 24, 1943 on an airfield overseas -- the second in a row of foggy Christmases.  The USO troupe that was scheduled to perform can't make it and it falls to a handful of inventive servicemen (and women) to entertain the rest of the troops.  Featuring well-loved songs from the decade shaped by the "Greatest Generation," this is an evening of fun, warmth, and nostalgia for the whole family.

Twelfth Night, or What You Will

by William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

February  8 - 24, 2007

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM

Shakespeare's immortal tale of disguise, mistaken identity and deceiving servants is given a new and original twist by the DRT company.  Feste is a lounge singer, Orsino is a Monte Carlo dilettante and Viola hides her feminine beauty under a bohemian's beret.  A surprisingly smooth setting of one of Will's most poetic, silly and ultimately joyful comedies.  Ages ten and older.

Moby Dick - Rehearsed

by Orson Welles (1915-1985), adapted from Herman Melville (1819-1891)

May 9 - May 19, 2007

Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM

Produced through special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.

A stunning adaptation of Melville's masterpiece, Orson Welles presents a troupe of actors set to perform King Lear.  A young upstart presents a new script:  Lear becomes Ahab, Kent becomes Starbuck, and our young ambitious actor becomes the voice of Ishmael.  Sparse, riveting theatre examining obsession and the nature of man.  Ages twelve and older.
